CAREFUL RECRUITING TIPS FOR A STARTUP

As a startup, recruiting staff can be a daunting thought, especially knowing that once you have employed someone permanently, there is no easy way to get rid of them should they not work out.

This is why recruiting is seen as one of the most important steps in setting up a business.

We know recruitment and that is why we want our clients to recruit correctly the first time round when using our recruitment application, Skills Cafe. In preparation for when our app launches, we have some great tips on how to recruit carefully.

1. Communicate your company’s mission and value system from the onset

If your potential staff member is in the know.  In particular – knows what you stand for, where your company is going and what you value the most – well, they will know whether they can work within those parameters. Adding to that, you should find out what their value system is about and where they want to go. This way you will know if they are a good fit or not.

2. Make sure the job description is super clear and effective

Very often candidates will apply for jobs because they believe they fit the mould.  However, on finding out more about the position, they soon realise they are either under or overqualified. To save your and their time, make sure your job description is very clear and detailed. Your job description can also be a way to sell your company. Nowadays you want to be appealing to the top talent out there.

3. Tell everyone that you’re recruiting

Letting everybody you are connected to know that you are starting out and looking to source the best candidates, can help you find those special Unicorns. Again, be clear about what you want, what it is you value, and what kind of person would suit the position/s.

4. Pre-Interview Preparation

Interviews are tough for everyone. Be prepared in terms of your questions, your research beforehand, and also give your candidates a chance to do their homework as well. Once the interview actually arrives, both of you will be ready to tackle all the angles and shoot from the hip straight away, with accuracy.

5. Close and close well

So, you have your ideal candidates short-listed, but do you know whether they are ready and even willing to work for you? In today’s heavy-talented candidate pool, you must strike whilst the iron is hot but also sell your company to them. This means closing the deal, as it were, and presenting them with an offer they cannot refuse. This may be made up of a great salary package, growth potential options and incentivise features.

Are you ready to start recruiting with confidence?
